Many of us did some type of volunteering before we had kids, and on occasion, we might think about getting back to it some day when the wee ones are older. But, have you ever thought about doing it together as a family? Well, it’s possible, and not only is it possible, it’s a great thing to do. According to The Volunteer Family Organization, “The younger your children are when you volunteer, the better. You are establishing the basis for a lifelong habit that they will pass along to their own children. Children can do simple projects such as visiting residents at a local nursing home, making get well cards for other children, or participating in a sing-a-long at a local hospital.”
This organization was founded by a mom in 2003, who wanted to find a way for her family to volunteer together. Now, they offer guidance and information on their website to families in 40 states. They have a database of over 30,000 local volunteer opportunities. There are many activities even suitable for younger children. So, if you thought about putting this on the backburner for sometime down the road, that isn’t really necessary. There is no time like the present!
