Flansamburgers and Poke Cake

This post is in honor of my brother, the gourmet chef, who most of the time is cooking something very elaborate and complicated. Every once in a while, he likes to cook something old-school American - like on the Fourth of July. On the Fourth, you can always expect his famous “Flansamburgers” followed by Jello Poke Cake. Remember this cake? Anyhow, both of these will be sure winners with your family and friends, especially the kids. They can even participate in the making of each. Who doesn’t like poking holes in cake?

To make a Flansamburger, (don’t ask me where he got that name) you’ll need two flattened beef patties. In the center of one of the patties, put your favorite burger toppings (mushrooms, onions, cheese etc.) Then put the second patty on top and pinch around the edges to seal. You’ve just made a stuffed burger. The amazing thing is that when these are done and you bite into them, your favorite toppings are now fillings, and they just ooze out with good flavor. Yum!!

For the poke cake (I know we usually feature healthy stuff, but hey, it’s a holiday), you’ll just need a good old vanilla cake mix, some Jello and whipped cream. Check out this recipe for the Fourth of July Poke Cake on AllRecipes.com.

Enjoy!
